Nestled on the corner of State Street, the building maintains a rich history of serving patrons since the 1800s. For more than 90 years, it operated as the place to see and be seen until the popular watering hole pivoted with changes brought on by prohibition into The Green Gate Tearoom. By the mid-thirties, the dry tearoom happily shed its existing image. It relaunched as the Green Gate Tavern which proudly poured libations until 1976. The building, in great need of repair, underwent a regime change and renovations to become The Kennett Square Inn, a homage to its colonial history.
With this rich history in mind, Letty’s Tavern was born. Bringing a refined, yet approachable concept to Kennett, it offers elevated pub fare, east coast style pizza and boasts a new bottle shop. Letty’s is named after its resident spirit, Leticia who was named after William Penn’s daughter. She’s been known to visit from time to time. The unique gastropub and bottle shop takes their hospitality legacy seriously by featuring innovative and vibrant craft cocktails, as well as a thoughtfully curated wine and beer program. Letty’s brings a laid back, west coast vibe to the more serious shores of the east coast through great atmosphere, food, cocktails, and service. While unsurpassed hospitality is certainly nothing new, this concept is, and we are happy to share it with you.
